Do you remember Mark Caughey?, He was in the World Cup in Mexico 86 with the Northern Ireland team, with hamilton he played few games but if he scored a good amount of goals (21 app, 13 Goals), I think he played right-wing and striker.

Brilliant player. I thought he was a real footballer.
Could do with him at the moment.

Started 87/88 in great form, like the rest of the team. We won our first eight matches, including a 2-0 win at Kilmarnock with ten men that should be been five or six. One of the best Accies displays I'd ever seen at that point. Then, the team went off the boil and so did he. He got a fair bit of stick at times, the fans had seen what he could do so when his form dipped they were frustrated. We hung on to win the league but I think he had gone to Motherwell by that point.

When I remember Mark Caughey it's the over head kick he scored with, at the away end....can some please remind me which team he scored that goal against?

Thanks.

It was Dumbarton, I was one of the few fans standing behind the goal. I remember my mates who had stayed in the home end saying it went straight into the top corner and they didn't believe me when I said it went straight at the keeper but the sheer power on it meant he could only push it into the top corner. An amazing goal. Thinking about how good that team was and then we see dross like today. Chalk and cheese.

The first 8 games saw some of the best football from Accies which I’ve seen.
Kilmarnock, Raith, Airdrie and QOS away were all great performances.
We seemed to change it after a 1-0 home defeat to E Fife, who in fairness we battered, and the magic never really returned.

With Danny McGrain at right back for much of it. Not sure what had happened to Kevin McKee at that point. We used to regularly pump Airdrie at Broomfield - 0-4, 0-3 & 1-4 with another 1-2 when we'd already wrapped up the first title in 1986. And up until about 1984 we hadn't won there since the thirties. The big turning point I remember is getting battered 1-5 at home to Meadowbank. We limped over the line after that, and only got there thanks to Lambie signing Colin Harris.

McCabe, Taylor, terrific footballers, and likewise defenders like McKee, Martin, and Fulton. Think Jamie Fairlie may have returned later that season. I hated Colin Harris when he arrived, he seemed to slow everything down. But what a skilful player he turned out to be- Brazilian skills at 33 rather than 45 rpm.

Later I would like to ask you about various players who played for the team in those years, between 85/86 and 88/89. if you agree, and also grateful for your responses.
