SPFL vote

Postby Big Wurzil » Tue Apr 14, 2020 4:40 pm

What are we to make of recent carry me nonsenses, if any has taken place bearing in mind our chairman is part of the elected SPFL board.

Elected to serve on the 2019/20 SPFL Board, alongside SPFL chief executive Neil Doncaster, chairman Murdoch MacLennan and independent non-executive director Karyn McCluskey, were:
• Ladbrokes Premiership: Alan Burrows (Motherwell), Les Gray (Hamilton Academical), Stewart Robertson (Rangers)
• Ladbrokes Championship: Ross McArthur (Dunfermline Athletic), Graham Peterkin (Ayr United)
• Ladbrokes League 1 and League 2: Ken Ferguson (Brechin City)

Interesting to note the only relegation that won’t take place is surprise surprise in league 2, look which team just happens to be bottom and probably no doubt no opposition from anyone in the league. Think it was only Edinburgh in that league that voted against it.

Anyway just think their was no need for the vote considering some countries are looking at potential starting back dates and UEFA are in no rush to declare leagues null and void.

So what part has our illustrious chairman played in all of this

You can’t relegate Brechin from League 2 as who do you replace them with? Brora and Keilty will never get to play their playoff never mind get the chance to play Brechin, nothing to do with Ken Ferguson.

If Brechin were to be relegated you would then need to do the same to us, QoS and Forfar.

There’s also no chance of this season re-starting due to a number of issues. Players contracts all expire on May 31st, Teams would need some sort of mini pre-season to get back up to speed given how long they’ve had off (the health executive has said no training until 10th June provisionally), starting late would impact the betfred cup and the start of next season and if teams are allowed a transfer window it would affect sporting integrity as it would give Hearts, Aberdeen, Hibs and maybe Ross County another chance to go out and outspend their competitive rivals again even though they’ve had 2 transfer windows to sign players for this season.

Sooner this season is declared as is with the average points per game added on the better so we can all move on. That run of 7 points definitely came at the right time.

My mate was part of the voting process in 2012 when Rangers went bust. Les Gray stood up and said there is no way they can come back into the league structure - he then voted for them to come straight back into the top league. I would treat anything he says with a pinch of salt.

Peterhead were the only team who voted they start in the Lowland League.

Seemed to have read recently that either FIFA or UEFA were agreeing to extend player's contract until August this year. Not that will make a lot of difference to finishing this season. We all know it's over.

All sorted - Dundee vote 'Yes' and Les and Ann Budge are in charge of restructuring............what could go wrong!

PS bottom 2 sides in charge....wonder what they'll come up with - Premier League of 22?

Can see this causing no end of trouble. Good job we had our wee winning streak when we did. Hearts will be raging, feel sorry for Partick Thistle in particular

Personally I would have made season null and void and made no relegation , restructure to 3 x 14 leagues

Null and void was immediately off the table as then prize money did no need to be paid.

The greed of the old firm, aberdeen and even hearts and hibs years ago prevented league reconstruction to protect the 4 old firm home games was disgusting.

Only us hearts st mirren and Ross county would seriously vote for reconstruction the rest no.

Sky have reduced their cash already and now it’s 14/16 into into the pot instead of 12.

There hasn’t been more than 12 in the league since 74/75 season. Is it going to happen now ?

Les’s thoughts on reconstruction in a daily record interview. Good luck with that one les. To be honest Ive lost interest until we kick off again presumably with a new season. whatever happens it seems we are safe for another season. I really cant see any circumstance in which the current season restarts. Mind you this the SPFL

Assuming the current season is declared over do we get a rebate on our 19/20season tickets? I would stress I’m not looking or expecting it. :D
