Summer transfer window

Postby TerracingTomas » Thu Apr 18, 2019 1:56 pm

If this seems a bit premature then I would point out we have made our first summer signing as per the clubs website.

The club have agreed a deal for 25 year old Norwegian defender Markus Fjortoft to join us in the summer.

Markus had recently been playing in Dunedin, New Zealand, for Southern Utd, and had previously been in USA.

He will join up with us at the end of June.

At 25 his playing record is to say the least underwhelming in fact the only sustained playing period he seems to have had is a recent seaon in the New Zealand minor league. Prior to that he was part of his college soccer squad in the states before being called up by seattle sounders for a few months where he never featured at all. I was hoping the appointment of a new Director of Football would lead to less hit and miss with signings but this first one has ‘Richard Roy’ written all over it and doesnt auger well for the future. To be fair I assume he has been training with us and Brian has had a say and he may turn out to be a hidden gem but I’m not holding my breathe.

He’ll either be a gem of a signing like McGowan or a dud like Alex Eadie...

We either seem to sign pretty decent players or dross. Nothing in between.

You really didn't need to go back nineteen years for an example of a dud. Sam Kelly? Aaron Smith?

Fair point. Eadie was just the first one to come to mind. We would be here all night if they were all to be named.

Alex Eadie was misunderstood.

I see Notts County with Kane Hemmings got relegated yesterday. 14 goals from 36. Worth a look

From BBC gossip page:-

St Johnstone have offered Blair Alston a new contract, but the midfielder is also wanted by Dundee and Hamilton Academical. (Daily Express, print edition)

Not a bad player but would rather we offered Andreu a deal and brought in Lewis Smith and Minmaugh, suspect we couldn't match his wages expectation in any case.

For me a strong proven centre half would be a priority.

So Marcus Fjortoft is not to be the answer?

Don't think a centre half should be the priority if we lose Kilgannon as Gogic,Stanger and Hamilton could all fill the role.

Decent midfielders are what we need and have needed all season instead of relying on wee boys.An improving Andreu and two others would enable the likes of Mimmnaugh and Smith to be bedded in when it suits and not relying on them every week as they are still a couple of years away from being mainstays in the team.

I agree re the midfield but the same applies to the defence. We will have some promising youngsters such as Stanger who will need sound wise heads beside them. I’m assuming Kilgallon won’t be back and Ziggy probably off so our defensive recruitment will be vital particularly if Fulton is first choice keeper. Our record isnt good e.g. Tomas but it’s way to early yet. Much will depend on which league we end up in dictating the market we shop in.

DEFENDER GORDON IS BOUND FOR BUCHAREST
Scottish Daily Mail13 May 2019
HAMILTON ACCIES defender Ziggy Gordon is set to tie up a move to Dinamo Bucharest, following tonight’s league encounter at St Mirren. The manager of the 18-times Romanian champions, Mircea Rednic, confirmed the 26-yearold is on the brink of a deal. Dinamo failed in February with a £125,000 bid for the experienced full-back, who is out of contract in the summer.

No surprise there but the big question is he still under contract for the play offs if that’s our fate?

Reading big Steve Davies’s post match interview he makes it clear he wants to stay another year and has been talking to the club but everyone has been waiting to see what division we ended up in. So fingers crossed a deal is done.

Hope a deal is done.
Knew Steve was a class act when he took the pee out of Dele Ali prior to scoring against Spurs.
