What up-date on Darian McKinnon?

Postby porcupine » Mon Jan 29, 2018 3:08 pm

Anyone heard officially how Daz has fared, after Saturday?

If true, this is the biggest blow yet to our season.

We have nobody who can fill the Daz role. Alongside the sale of Docherty, this rips the heart out of our midfield. One of them was a big miss; both of them is massive.

If we don't bring in a tough, experienced defensive midfielder before the window closes, we could be headed for the play offs.

I first saw him described as a "defensive midfielder", but if you look at his showreel, it's all attacking play. At a push, maybe he could play the Docherty role. That leaves Ferguson or Gogic in for MacKinnon, now that Gillespie and Donati have both been released. More likely Kozoronis joins the pool for two attacking midfield roles, along with Redmond, Lyon, Crawford (if he's still here), Imrie (his original position) and Templeton (dropping back).

I'm more concerned with the fact that we have apparently been trying to sign this guy for 2 years, he finally signs..yet can't even get a sniff as a sub appearance ? Daz for me is our MVP. He does a lot of the donkey work that some players just don't have the heart to do. He's actually getting better with age, I thought last season was his best yet.
Get well soon Daz.

Just stop the 3-5-2 nonsense and get Gogic to take the role of Daz.

Love that idea. He has the same kind of tenacity as Daz and when played in Midfield in the past Gogic looked handy. Would much rather see him try the holding midfielder role.

I would also say that Gogic would appear to have much more ball playing ability than Daz and is very capable of advancing play from that position.

Horrible news, both for him and the club.
He's been playing the best football of his career and, given he's turning 33 this year, probably doesn't have too long left at the top of his game. I'd say him and Docherty were probably the most important players for us this season, so losing both of them is going to leave a massive whole.

Spot on - only way I can see us coming even close to filling that gap is to move Gogic into midfield. Issue we then have is that we only really have 2 decent recognised CBs in the squad... (Thomas and the prodigal son Sarris). If one of them gets injured we are stuffed.
