Killie are our relegation rivals so it's not just about progressing in the cup; it's about making a statement in terms of the league. I am not convinced they have strengthened and might just have brought bodies in; however with a huge run of games facing us we really could have done with a wee boost going into this game.

Find £20 for an early round cup game a littttle bit steep to be honest.
I think we are one of the only PL teams who have not played ANY friendly games during the winter break, which is quite frightening.
Win via sneaky goal.

Eight changes to the Killie team which includes three rookies from Newcastle. One of them has only ever made three appearances...for Gateshead. Another hasn't played for anyone's first team. We seem to be 442, with Devlin and Donati at the back and Redmond back in midfield. Not a team to fill me with confidence but if we can't beat this lot...

3 at the back ending up as 5 at the back and leaving us short in the middle. Pretty even so far with both teams wasting chances to test the keeper.

Seems to have been 91 minutes of dross followed by orgasmic joy. Well done Accies but they are a side we should be beating. Stirling or Clyde at home would be nice.

r&w - Devlin, Donati and who else making up a back three?

For me it was McMann Devlin and Donati at the back with Imrie and Gills as wing backs.

As has been said many times its about narrow margins out there but that doesn't stop many knocker wethers from following their agenda rather than supporting the team.

We were the better team with the better chances but perhaps not much in it. McMann had a really dodgy start but grew into the game and deserves more respect from the 'no full backs' brigade. Daz and DAcol were good and Ali popped up with some quality here and there. Unfortunately Brophy and Redmond again underlined why they spent so much of their Accies careers outside the starting 11 - very poor.

I still think 451 is the set up for the players we have. So much for those moaning about Killie strengthening; if we made 8 changes and had the revolving door they have they would be going mental.

PS - its now 20 past 6 and if we had drawn or got beaten in that game today this thread and the board would have been busier - One can only speculate why that is the case ;)

Good result but survival in the league is surely more important.

Good result . A draw would have been a bad result for both sides . Support for the team was there to see , but sounded like a section of our support made their views clear on the board .

3 -5-2 definitely worked well today. Donatti was sensational in the central of the back 3. They had a really good fast defender who marshalled Broony well. When bingo and longridge came on we looked much more dangerous.
We were easily the better team however we really do need full / wing backs.
Great day out - delighted

No club needs a run to at least a cup semi (at Hampden) more than Accies. Too many years of non-achievement in Cups. We need a big day to bring the support out.

Accies controlled the majority of the match without over-running Killie.

That's now three times I've seen Kilmarnock.....they are truly crap! If we don't finish above them in the league then, heaven help us!!

We played three at the back, McMann isn't a left sided CB, LB possibly.
He played better in 2nd half.

Delighted that Accies won but some of their passing and decision making in first half was absolutely terrible.

Redmond and Brophy are not progressing although Redmond did play better in 2nd half. Brophy looks lost. D'Acol is as slow as a week in the jail!

We now seem to have a spreading epidemic within the club....Imrie, D'Acol and Brophy.....diving all over the place.

As far as I see it we have two or three major issues that need addressed...leave personnel for a moment.

We don't look fit (enough) moving into last 15 minutes of games.
The lack of options, at times, for the ball carrier is frightening....everyone runs away. Very few getting into space and demanding the ball.
I think we need to start pressing teams higher up the pitch, forcing errors, more often.
Sort out the decision making in the last third of the pitch......sorry, that was 4.

We need two full backs, get Gillespie back into midfield and a striker.

I would honestly let D'Acol go and maybe even Redmond (although we are a little light in midfield).

Would not be adverse to taking a punt on a player from National League or someone from League 1/Champ in Scotland if they could move us forward.
Motherwell seem to do quite well at finding these players, is our scouting network really that bad???

We have two massive games, after St J, in ICT and Kilmarnock, both at home. We need to win these and start beating the teams around us.

Got to agree for the 1st time ever I think. played a similar back 5 against Celtic at parkheed except sarris played instead of devlin and I've been crying out for it since. Donati and mcmann play so well together it must continue but we know it won't. Danny redmond was brilliant today but hats off to Bingham over ruling and having the balls to take the pen from Ali and Dougie and slotting home. hope that's the wee boost the guy needs. apart from that the game was utter shite.

Great result, hopefully we can repeat it on February 4th.
Be good to see us have a Cup run but more important to beat Killie and Inverness in our next two home games.

Well we can't complain about a bit of luck for a change!
We were gifted some chances and presumed it was going to be another draw, the lofted slow ball to the forwards made for some tedious football. Once the ball was played on the ground we showed strength.

I'll do the negatives first.
Brophy, spends most his time on his arse every game, really needs to be dropped, he doesn't seem to possess the pace or skill to deal with the slow centrebacks of scottish football.
Dougie, he's got into the really bad habit of backing into tackles and trying to win set pieces, not to mention that horrible dive in the box.what happened to the fearless dougie running down the wing?
Redmond, really brought nothing to the team.

postives
Donati, the best game he's played for us since his debut, looked absolutely up for it and was a calming presence at the back.
Woods, dealt with most crosses comfortably.
Daz, still insane that he's been player of the season. Worked his arse off again and made some great interceptions.
Bingham, unlike Brophy, showed balance on the ball and pace, created a great chance by chasing down a lost cause and winning possession back. Cool finish for the penalty too.

Honorable mentions to D'Acol, Mcmann, Devlin *except that horrible back pass and most his passing from the back*, Ali.

Overall a scrappy affair but will be a great relief to get that win. A few victories and we can start to crawl away from the back.
