St J have a terrible defence. Push, pin them back and we will beat them

By the law of averages,we are due a win against this lot,our bogey team since the 1970's.Think back to how many games last few seasons we have played them off the park only to end up losing.

This. Apart from the freak incident of Foster and Swanson both getting sent off was our last win against them really Alex Neil's last game?

Even this early, this could be a season-defining game for us. We need to accrue points in games like this. Are we going to allow St Johnstone to concede possession to us, but hit back when it matters, and take the points as they repeatedly did to us last season? Or are we going to be a bit more clever, fight dirty if need be, and do what it takes to get a result?

Like YOH, I think we're long overdue a win against St Johnstone, not just by the 'law of averages', but because we are definitely as good a team as they are. I'm just not convinced we're as savvy - and that's something that usually comes with experience, something our young squad lacks.

We need to be patient. Keep possession. Ignore the shouts from some of our fans to "get it up the park". Build it slowly. Play it backwards if need be. Wait for the opportunities to come. Make more of our free kicks - like Boyd did at Motherwell.

They have a striker we need to watch: but apart from Watt, we know all about their strengths and weaknesses. This contest should be more about what we can bring to it - they'll have less of an idea what to expect from our new-look team. I'd like to think we have one or two who could surprise them.

Looks like we have a good, solid defence at long last. Competition for places from middle to front, with several youngsters looking to establish themselves. Not sure how we're going to score as many as last season, but if we keep the back door locked, that shouldn't matter so much.

Accies to win. 1-0 would be a brilliant result.

These fcuks have had the Indian sign on us since the early 80s and God knows why.
From the McCoist/Pelosi/Caldwell/Brogan,/etc era remember two 3nil humpings in quick succession at ODP.
Even struggled to beat mediocre St Johnstone teams in the past and would be interesting to see the entire head to head to see how that stands.
So if form is to be believed we've got no chance so I'll go 3 nil Accies with a Kilgallon hat trick.

Is this a geometric progression?

Will your next post on the thread tip us to win 9-0?

:D

As others have said Watt is the danger man otherwise I dont think we should have much to fear from this team. Its our inability to create chances that could undo us. I really want a win from this game before we have another enforced break (although I’ll take in the colts game v St mirren). A narrow 1 - 0 for Accies

Think it's a dangerous tactic to single out Watt for attention.
Scougall is a dangerous player and Liam Craig always a threat at set pieces.

Every Accies fan I have spoken to today, whether in person or via Social Media-even the pessimists, are absolutely buzzing today.

Not been a buzz like this since we won at Easter Road. For once, rather than losing our best players,we have actually strengthened in the areas of the team we need.

Let's give these bogey team fcukers a thrashing to round off a great day.

Great business over the summer, and good to see some experience coming in today!

My only slight concern is we don't yet appear to have replaced the 'creativity' we've lost without Crawford or Templeton... but hopefully some of the new boys can chip in with this, possibly with Miller dropping back a bit to give us a bit of flair.

Maybe there will be a more direct style of play now, bypassing the midfield creators a la Templeton/Crawford and using the 6 ft 3 in Norwegian striker as a target man with Keatings/Miller/Bingham feeding off the scraps.
Certainly bolstered the depth of squad on deadline day, that's for sure.

Guess today's line-up.

No idea who's good to go from the new signings, but how about:

Woods
Ziggy, Delph, Kilgallon
McGowan .......... McMann
Daz Taiwo Martin
Keatings
Brustad

Dont think we have clearance for Kilgallon or Brustad yet.
