Now that we're hopefully getting over the disappointment of Firhill, cooler heads will note that we're still above two teams, and if the season ended today, we would have stayed up. Mission accomplished. It's true, we're on a losing streak, but it's not our first losing streak of the season - we've been in this situation twice already, and recovered both times.
I would be more worried if we were losing badly, suffering heavy defeats, and never looking like winning. But some of our recent losses, including the last two, have been close calls. The margins between victory and defeat are very thin, and with a bit of luck we'd have more points on the board. We can all pick out weaknesses, and nurse theories about who's to blame, but overall our performances have not been that bad.
We're well capable of winning a couple of games and securing our SPL future.
So what about our opponents? County have just announced the permanent appointment of their co-managers, odd timing, but my theory is they expect to go down, Ferguson & Kettlewell are the cheap option for the Championship, and their chairman reasons that if they can somehow stay up, then they deserve to keep the jobs. At least until the next bad run. And maybe the announcement will give them a boost (I doubt it).
They've had 6 games in charge and taken 6 points. Over the season that average would see them safe, but not from where they are now. 4 points from their remaining 4 games would take them to a total of 31 - relegated.
And their only win was over Partick. The 4-0 result that now looks like a fluke. Do they even have another win in them?
I can't see them coming to NDP on Saturday and winning. And a draw's no good to them. If we don't manage to win, and we only get a point, we should remember that. But I think we'll do it - we'll carry too much of a goal threat for County. 2-0 Accies.
