1874 vs 1875

I couldn't see this asked/covered in a previous thread.
On wikipedia etc it says Hamilton Academical FC was founded in 1874, however on our club crest on some kits it states 1875, on others its 1874?

It was 1875 for years and then I think research undertaken during the 90s established that we had been formed and played games a year earlier than thought.

It's been 1874 on the kits since the early 90s, possibly from the chevrons kit onwards.

Motherwell's fans' flag said trophy virgins 143 scrolling onto 144 years. Bit presumptuous, we could win one of the major cups in the next couple of seasons. We won't but we could.

The shirt in the forum header is from around 1983 or so, it was John Brown's shirt. I felt a little conflicted about using an out of date badged shirt when making the header, but the newer crests look pretty awful by comparison, with the colours reversed and stars instead of cinquefoils. Oh well.
