Old timers

Postby dip5359 » Thu Jul 28, 2016 9:48 pm

I come from a family of lifelong Accies supporter, the Patersons, who originally came from Quarry Street. I am in the fortunate position of still having my father, who will be 98 next March. His first memories of going to an Accies match was around 1922, and he remembers seeing the likes of Puggy Allen and Davie Wilson play. His dad unfortunately died in 1929, when he was only 9 years old, but his uncle David was a diehard supporter, who actually died around 1963/64 at the Old Douglas Park, whilst watching the Accies play Clyde. One might almost say that he gave his life for the club. Does anyone else have parents or grandparent still alive who can remember these players?

Puggy Allen was a relation of my wife's family.

We have both a Scotland cap and jersey of his in our house , I think he was selected once.

I'm sure I even have an old photo of the Accies team from around that time.

As a six year old I went to Douglas Park with my father and grandfather , both of whom are now sadly deceased , for the first time and I have had the bug since then. Half a century of watching them :D
