Indeed.
Well done everyone who contributed to this season's success, but especially, since he is the subject of this thread, congratulations to Martin Canning, who in his first full season as a manager succeeded in keeping Accies in the SPL. Our goal was simply to stay up, to avoid relegation, and he achieved it.
Along the road there were more than a few bumps. Not just bad defeats, games when it looked like we didn't have much of a plan, and when several players just didn't turn up, but a couple of real stinkers. The 8-1 gubbing at Celtic Park was reminiscent of the worst of the Lambie years, and the cup defeat at Annan is a candidate for our worst ever result. But there were also some handsome and crucial victories.
The Board must have known they were taking a risk appointing Martin, at least a season too soon, and before he had gathered enough coaching experience. But he was the best internal candidate consistent with our philosophy of growing our own. They have stuck by him when our fans overwhelmingly seemed to want him sacked. And I'm sure he'll continue to enjoy their support.
An even bigger challenge awaits next season, but for now let's give credit for what has just been accomplished.
