Canning's body language

Postby porcupine » Sun Jan 03, 2016 12:17 am

Something we rarely see at NDP with the dug-outs in front of us, but today at Fir Park MC's body language said a lot. Hands in his pockets for most of the game. :( :(

All the management training courses tell you...Do that and you are seen as defensive, hiding something, just plain disinterested, bored, or having given up the task. To me it always showed someone who was not fully committed to the project, and it was something I sorted out immediately! As a boss, it is the worst possible visible example to show one's staff.

If your hands were cold, Martin, why not wear gloves? SORT IT OUT!!

I was going to come on and post something similar actually but you've written it a lot better than I ever could.

The only thing I'd add is when you think back to a year ago when Alex would kick every ball with the team to canzo standing with his hands in his pocket showing little emotion. It can't be a great message to the players looking over for a bit of encouragement.

So putting the amateur psychology to the side the message is that MC isn't fully up for it. So you would think then that if that is the case the team would fold when behind late on which is not something that the evidence shows.

So can someone tell us how managers should stand ? Should they constantly be Barking orders at their players ?

Does that mean that Van Gaal is a rotten manager.....cause he sits on his ass the whole game, Ferguson very rarely moved but when he did it was usually to put across a strong message.

I don't think MC's manner will impact the players one way or the other. The main issue could surround things like tactics, formations and substitutions......he does advise, give encouragement, also vital ingredients that would've been conveyed at your management courses.

Btw, I'm struggling to defend some of the above from MC (tactics etc) and I think the time is drawing close when a change is inevitable.....

The players still seem to buy into what he is asking them to do......some of our support should maybe lay off a little bit during the game......

Well, it's not Amateur at all. Why not just Google and see what all the professionals say about hands in pockets. Red and White Hoops makes a very good comparison between our present and last managers. Watch AN on Match of the Day. HE IS still kicking and heading almost every ball.

Shouting encouragement and/or directions or suggestions is demonstrating involvement, passion for your players on a football park. I seem not to be the only one who considers that the players could be getting a lot more visible involvement from MC. Slouching about with you hands in your pockets is NOT a positive approach to ANY business.

BTW, I was NOT one of the many who were calling for MC to get to cluck yesterday!

So how should a football manager stand ?(presumably it is accepted they can't be animated or instructing all the time?) Arms crossed ? hands by their side ? hands behind their back ? Sitting down ?

Also in your original post you were suggesting that MC was not fully committed; but your later post is suggesting its just not a positive approach? A big difference in the conclusion being drawn.

Or maybe its just nonsense ? :D

Not bothered about body lanugaue etc

But this I am

"Alex Neil is a 33-year-old Scot with a 74 per cent win percentage"

Canning is close to a 74 per cent loss percentage

It's all about winning in football!
