Interview with colin mcgowan

Postby Alfie Olek » Sat Dec 12, 2015 2:43 pm

Link here to an interview with Colin mcgowan in the scotsman today. Along similar lines to others he has given around his battle with drink and drugs and the work he is doing at hamilton. Whatever your views it is clear that he isn’t really that bothered about the football side of things. Asked if the club should ever build another stand his view is he would rather drop down a league than sacrifice what he is doing for the individuals he is involved with and thats not the fans. His clear interest is the stadium and using as a base for his projects. That may be admirable but it may explain the dome debacle. Was there a fall out between the footballing side and the charity side even though Le sand ronnie made the announcement. I had also always thought that free tickets which seem to run to the hundreds for every game were about building our support but I don’t think so reading this article.

McGowan seems to be the man who bankrolls the club. I wonder where he gets the money from? No real clues in the article except some apparent financial know how.

Just read it there. I think it's pretty clear to see he's just using Accies to have a platform for his charity work. Our own chief executive has been to one away game?! Wow!

There's lots of things in life more important than football. The guys doing a great job opening the club up to the less fortunate in life. Shame that his efforts go somewhat unrecognised amongst the support and town in general.

Read the wording and numbers around the club badge. That will give you a clue what we are.

For many years football clubs have spouted on about being part of the community but with no real effort on their part to do anything to help that community other than by playing football. I am more than happy that Accies are actually giving something back and think those that criticise it are pretty pathetic. The idea that everyone at the club must be 100% focused on football is laughable and its quite clear that the football and the community stuff compliment each other - its not one or the other.

Why is it laughable that Accies should be 100% focused on football,we are a football club are we not? Also please explain how they compliment each other.

Totally agree with this what the club does behind the scenes for the junkies is an embarrassment to its REAL FANS

The only embarrassment is the REAL FANS who can't see the bigger picture, very shortsighted view in my opinion.

All well and good until our Chief Executive said that "he would rather drop a division than see the charity work drop off a little".Football before charity every time.
Another thing, the folk with these free tickets don't even watch the game and never come back.It would be better giving these tickets to local primary schools. At least then we would have a chance of building a support base.
