Accies Dome

Ronnie is on Off the Ball and spoke about the potential plans the club have to enclose the pitch at the Sainsbury's end to create an Accies Dome; circa cost of £1.5m.

Yes, I listened to it, it was a good interview. It's supposed to be a fitness centre or the like??

I can see why they would do it as it gives the club an all weather arena to train in even in the depths of winter but Id far rather the money if available was spent on a third stand. 1.5 would build a stand half the size of the main stand from the half way line to the corner flag and presumably the office space if it was built to the same design as the others could be rented out contributing to the costs. We will need a third stand for next years mid week european games ;)

Is there enough space for a Dome behind the Sainsbury's goal? I wouldn't have thought so. It doesn't seem wide enough. There's barely enough room for the small training pitch that's there just now.

I think they're just talking about putting a dome over the area that is already at the Sainsbury's.

It's not going to be huge but will give players and youths somewhere to train in the depths of winter.

I just finished listening to it on I player and recommend any accies fans who haven't already listened do so. An excellent interview as always with Ronnie. He's always very open and honest which is such a refreshing change.

How much training can actually be done in that area though?? for a squad of say 20 aswell as the under 20's the space is tiny. To me this represents a bit of a waste of a huge amount of money.

I have often thought that this is a good idea but with some steps built in to the outside (even just five rows of 40 seats quite high up) facing the pitch. This would add greatly to the feel of the ground and generate a little bit extra atmosphere.

Any clever architects out there?
