Advertising Opportunity

Postby Stevie Clarke » Mon Sep 23, 2024 12:11 pm

I noticed there is a new digital advertising board at Peacock Cross. Drivers waiting at the lights don't have much else to look at so could Accies not look into using it? They could advertise the Under 12s free season tickets or the Queen's Park match where they are reducing the prices or just the next home game.

On another point, why have Accies stopped the 50/50 draw? Surely it's a simple money making opportunity they are missing out on? The winner at Raith got over £800. If we could promote it properly, get the fans behind it, I'm sure we could have a prize worth winning. Two games I was at recently show what is possible. Albion Rovers v Broomhill, crowd only 175 but 50/50 prize £170. And Girvan v Ardeer, crowd 108, prize £100. When we did it, it was so poorly thought of, mainly because of McGowan, the prize was often around the same amounts. And the winner was rarely mentioned, so there would need to be transparency. How about it, Serif?

The advertising board would cost money ( unless the company who own/run it would give it to Accies cheap or for free ) .

The 50/50 draw is a no brainer , but then again , there seems to be more than a few things that are “ no brainers “ that the club can’t be arsed doing …

It would cost money but it’s hardly worldwide chains using it at the moment. One is a local hotel and the other an independent local mot centre. Surely we could afford it!

Personally I think it’s a great idea and we should have some sort of presence in the town.

Re the 50/50. I used to regularly buy some going through the turnstile but when you never knew who won it I stopped. Come to think of it I never recall anyone I knew mentioning they’d won it. It would’ve a straightforward name or photo on Twitter it would make me start buying again.there could t be any suspicion then.

That's the core problem. Once fans realised that their cash could possibly be being diverted elsewhere, they stopped buying. It's not a difficult task to have any ticket draw carried out in front of spectators during the half-time interval and announced there and then. Most if not all clubs announce their 50/50 winner at half-time. However, with recent history, it may be difficult to restore fans confidence to make it worth while.

As to the local advertising opportunity, maybe it's been costed and too expensive, but there again, it might be far too ambitious for those in charge

Only problem with the advertising boards is once folk see the PATG prices, then it is game over.

A few Accies fans I know have heavily publicised the club on Social Media, but have stopped doing it this season due to the aforementioned PATG prices.

A normal club and this would be a no-brainer- especially in our 150th year, but this lot are as clueless as the previous lot.

I wish they would all disappear: Owner, Board,Manager, Mr 15k and plenty folk working at the club and in their places we could have Accies orientated people.

I’m sick of the sight of the lot of them as they have already ruined our 150th Anniversary and have priced out loyal fans.

They can all Foxtrot Oscar as far as I am concerned.

I know, which is why I didn't suggest that, only the reduced price game. There is no smoothing over our horrendous prices. Getting rid of the young kids price is commercial suicide. I don't expect to see many at the Thistle game.

The vast majority of tickets are bought by hospitality guests hence they win it far more than normal fans.
We could however be doing it better with standing orders etc for fans to make regular payments as well as those who buy at the turnstile.

Just to clarify, there's been no 50/50 draws since Serif came in. Even if it was someone in hospitality who won in the past, their name should be announced either at the end of half time or on Twitter. It seemed to be shrouded in mystery and names were only briefly given after I kicked up a fuss about it.

The 50/50 draw tickets were sold for years by the youth/reserve team at the corner of the pitch just by the turnstiles, and in the function suite prior to ko. Scott Struthers used to draw the winning ticket from a 1980's style tombola at the tunnel at 1/2 time. Generally, the winning number & amount was announced over the tannoy. I won it a couple of times over the years (including during lockdown when Marcus announced it on the TV stream), and I've never been in hospitality in my life. A couple of people who sit near me have had occasional wins too. I always bought 1 as I assumed proceeds went to youth team, though I did stop briefly when they stopped announcing it.
