Well no sign of a freed list from the club but as I recall is it not the case every season that everybody buggers off after our last game and we here nothing for several weeks?

Stan has given a Record interview that seems to suggest there will be no squad overhaul. More of the same, youngsters coming through and one or two signings. As all things Accies smoke and mirrors we can be wait and see.

With a dwindling fan base, no surprise there, the way the club treat the fans, less money coming in. So its going to be the same again next year, wee boys in midfield, getting easily pushed aside . Overall we are very lightweight all over the park
It will be the usual scatter gun approach, sign some free transfers and blood more yoof

I am still not buying this, " we have a great youth system". Sure we give the yoof a chance to play, but the purpose is surely to bring them through then sell for a fee. Overall apart from 3 players about 10 years ago, and Greg Docherty, very few players have went for a fee or onto bigger things. Lewis Ferguson was our last success and we got hee haw for him

Other clubs, Motherwell, Hearts, Hibs have had greater success with their yoofs, and you dont hear them shouting from rooftops about their great yoof system

Who from Motherwell, Hibs or Hearts have went on to achieve more in the game than the 2 James's?

Aaron Hickey. It's a fair point but the two James's is a while ago, it's almost a different era.

David Turnbull went to Celtic for £ 3 million, or thereabouts

Josh Doidge of Hibs is 19 and English Premier clubs were looking at him as well as Celtic. Figures of several million were being talked about

The 2 James's are out big success of course but that was over 13 years ago

So, should we do away with the youth teams?

Of course not Begs! We are always likely to find a real good player along the way, from all the teams, plus a probable loyalty to keep with us once the individual gets Reserve/First team football, quite apart from any future income from player sales.
Although no Stellar Stars since J & J, we've produced a lot of useful Academy Players for Scottish Football.

It's also keeping boys/girls 'off the streets' which is socially no bad thing.

Totally agree porcupine. For people on here to say that we don't have a great youth system is a nonsense!

It's a bit strange though to bring through someone like Kyle Munro, play him in the Premiership, where he scored, then use him sparingly in the Championship then loan him out to a team in the SIXTH tier.

So Pops has been released by Hearts.

https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/oth ... n-26957624

Not a surprise really given they let him go out on loan. I predict he will sign for us but only if he deosnt get a better offer !

Heard from a really good source at the last game that Pops was really happy with his time at Accies and wants to stay with us playing first team football.

This is the time for us to be sensible in our contract offer and get him signed ASAP.

There again....it's Accies

So that’s the clubs end of season squad update published

https://hamiltonacciesfc.co.uk/squad-update/

As we have released only 2 players with the remainder leaving being the loanees it suggests not a lot of manoeuvring for the new manager in bringing in players other than more loanees. Which reinforces the argument that Taylor fell out over his budget for the new season IMO.

We will have to wait and see.

And in other news (Cos don’t expect signing news from Accies anytime soon) it’s good to see that James Macarhtur has extended his deal at Crystal Palace. Been there since 2014 and a firm fans favourite.

Copy and paste from the daily record

Hamilton have missed out signing Mihai Popescu after the defender returned to Romania.

Popescu spent last season on loan at Accies from Tynecastle, and was released by the jambos when his contract expired this summer.

But rather than return to the Championship side, Popesu has penned a two-year deal with Farul Constanta in Romania's Liga I.

He'll play under the legendary Gheorge Hagi, father of Rangers star Iannis, who has made Popescu his 10th summer signing.

Not surprising really. Would have liked him to stay but given the uncertainty over absolutely everything at Accies the now you can’t blame him for going home to a two year contract.

As it stands, this is probably the squad:

G:Fulton,Jamie Smith

FB:Hamilton,McDonald,Shields,McGinn

CD:Easton,O'Reilly, Want

M: Virtanen,Scott Martin,Spence,Lawson,Mimmnaugh

W:Redfearn,Lewis Smith,McGowan,Ellis Brown

S:Ryan,Winter,Munro,Nicolson(highly rated under 18 top scorer)

Only real losses are Moyo and Popescu as Ronan Hughes and Ben Stirling were squad players at best.Perhaps Josh Mullin, but he was a big disappointment.

Want could replace Popescu with Chucky replacing Moyo as the main striker if that is the thinking of tightening the purse strings and slimming down the squad.

However, the issue is squad depth: Easton,Martin,Fulton,Winter,Want and Chucky are all liable to miss periods of the season through injury which shows how threadbare the squad is.

For me,a replacement for Moyo and we would stay up as you can still pick a half decent starting team from the aforementioned squad.

The problems will arise when inexperienced youngsters physically not up to it yet have to meet the challenge from the hardened professionals in this League added to the inconsistency which is inherent in youngsters.

Ideally,a new right back, central defender, attacking midfielder and a striker would have us top four, but a replacement for Moyo could perhaps be enough for safety...such is our decline under this regime.

We were saying that at the start of last season YOH nothing changed and given the reduced budget I’m not confident we will sign anything but dross. No word either on the Jamie Hamilton situation No scottish club will touch him as there will be a 6 figure development fee.

Don't know how much accuracy there is in this information but it's interesting reading during the summer break. Luke Mathieson at £5K per week must have gone down well in the dressing room
Budget cutting and squad reductions, (according to C McG,) will make it a challenge,IMO, to attract anyone of ability on those wages. However with a new enhanced commercial board :P the sky's the limit on our newly found income stream
