Accies v Ayr

Ayr got off to good start under Lee Bullen beating Arbroath, but since then they have lost to Morton and got knocked out the cup by Midden. Currently they have made fewer signings in this window than us with Ryan Gondoh ,winger, (Wealdstone)
Ben Dempsey, midfielder (Charlton Athletic, loan) arriving. We’re at home, we’ve had 2 weeks to prepare and Moyo is back so what can go wrong. 2 - 0 Accies. (Maybe)

Love your enthusiasm, TT. :P

Great to go into another year with renewed hope that Accies will not just survive in this division but climb the table too!

TT,
On paper and with our past record against Ayr, we should win, however we need to consider their new player on trial, Brandon Comley. He had a good record at Carlisle and Bolton Wanderers. I agree that 2-0 would be a great result and I'll be cheering us on from the Isle of Wight.

Was down at the Palace Grounds about 10am and while one game was being played another was abandoned without kicking off because of the wind. Assuming the wind levels continue as is our game ceases to involve skill instead it will be a game of chance. Will it go ahead? Finances probably dictate it will. :?:

Once again no midfield of any substance. Given Stans’ comment about the squad being in the best shape since his ‘reign’ started it didn’t show in his team selection. Still I suppose we started brightly enough and our goal was well worked and beautifully struck. But then then the usual. We miss the penalty and can’t build the lead nor could we defend what we had. The game was crying out for substitutions after they equalised but all we got was Ryan for Moyo. Two poor teams serving up for the most part poor fare.

Thanks Stevie - Tired and not thinking straight

Ryan for Smith, Moyo saw out the 90. How have we managed not to beat such a poor team? Even with that midfield, we should've been at least two up at HT. Hughes has to hit it low on such a windy day. He actually played quite well in the first half but all folk will remember is the penalty. Taylor and the board have to surely see that we are one short in midfield, at least, and one up front. Mullin is a big disappointment but why not play him where he is best, at right wing back or at least right sided? Wish we had appointed Imrie. Still, at least we are still top of the bottom five and nothing to fear next week at Kirkcaldy.

Funny how we see things differently? I thought Hughes was poor for the whole game and allowing him to take the decisive penalty when he has not been a regular starter, ws quite beyond me and my pals. IMO, he should have been subbed in the first half. With wind behind you hit the bloody ball hard and low. Too many players dance about now at pens and that can't help them decide what/where to place it.

We threw away two points today, no doubt. The left wing was almost empty of passes, and we had already seen Kennedy's skills early on. WHY? Too much persistence with Lewis, who was well marked, then we take him of?? WTF??

Standside Lino had a FIFA badge on. Must have got it in a Christmas cracker! At lest wto fouls were right in front of him yet he either ignored or gave decision the other way. O'Reilly's booking must be the worst wrong decision this season.

Rant Over. BUT we MUST beat those teams around us. Today's showing showed we had plenty of fight, but not nearly enough end product. Moyo, who looks the perfect footballer, still flatters to deceive. Must be great in training??

Stan in his post match interview was asked about Hughes and the penalty. He described Hughes as in good form.scored recently, earned the side a couple of penalties and was doing what had been asked of him. As regards the penalty he takes penalties in training and scores every time and had the courage to step up and take this one. Is Stan just talking him up for man management reasons or do you think he rates him and we can expect to see Hughes get a new contract before the seasons out.

Three of us can’t see what he brings to the team. Suspect that Stan is talking the boy up to keep his self confidence intact. Still a poos decision though.

Was a fast start to the game and we scored a fantastic goal but the penalty miss was the turning point.
Ayr came out 2nd half with renewed vigor and we did not cope with it , got the equaliser and could have sneaked it.
We desperately need a penalty box striker.

I'm not a fan of Hughes and I wasn't at the recent Killie game but I believe he scored a cracking goal (the highlights were never shown) and then he set up Jamie at Dumfries with a lovely back heel. I thought yesterday he did a lot of non-showy stuff well, getting the foot in, being quite tidy but as I said, he fell away in second half.

Yesterday was like so many games this season;namely dropping points from a position of potential success.

Off the top of my head, I have counted a minimum of SIXTEEN points we have thrown away this season(before yesterday) which includes missed chances at level pegging, failure to get a clinching goal and missed penalties etc.

We have now missed 4/5 penalties(QOS was still a miss) which must be a record.Get that Oxford player who scored four penalties yesterday to come up and impart his wisdom and technique.

It is really the case now that many fans expect us to miss when we get a penalty and this penalty scenario must be affecting the players also.Perhaps get a Psychologist in to install positive vibes to help iro this continuing problem.

Meanwhile, Taylor saying no more signings likely.A blind man can see we need two strikers in as the current incumbents have cost us too many points.

Same scenario as last season for me: two strikers in then and we would have stayed up and this season we would be in the Play Off positions.

I was really disappointed yesterday as we clearly have a better team than Ayr however we could well have lost that game.
On a couple of occasions It looked like Moyo using his other foot or heading the ball would have given us a simple goal.
Hughes had 2 really good games recently but was anonymous yesterday.
We desperately need a decent striker
