Season 19/20 Squad

Postby TerracingTomas » Wed May 20, 2020 4:12 pm

The ending of the season in such a dramatic fashion and all the debate and media coverage surrounding the SPFL Board, votes and Rangers EGM has not surprisingly taken the focus of Accies and the overall performance of our 19/20 season squad. The arrival of Brian Rice and the results he got out of the squad he inherited from Canning gave most of us optimism for season 19/20 as Brian had a full close season to assemble his own squad and work with them. I was hoping/anticipating that we would kick on as a club and spend the season in a much more comfortable position never entertaining the fear of the drop and perhaps going on a decent cup run. Maitland is on record as saying that at least 40 points would be a sign of progress. Looking at the season as a whole not just the improved performance in the last few games my overall view is of a squad that was no better than cannings and I would go as far as to say it was worse. We may well have made the most signings of any premiership club but too many were found wanting. I’m being generous IMO. Fjortoft, mckenna, Fon Williams, Hunt, Adedoyin and Beck to one degree or another never cut it. Easton and alston had injuries that impacted on their season but for many alston before injury disappointed. Keeping mackinnon a high earner on the books when he looked done was mistake. Rarely if ever featured. The players who did come good or deliver include for me Collar,Moyo, Southwood and Stubbs and we didnt get a full season out of Stubbs.
