Alan Gow Training @ Accies

Postby glenthedog » Mon Feb 02, 2015 4:33 pm

Just read this on the Daily Record website (must be true then).....

"The Hamilton Advertiser can reveal former Rangers attacker Alan Gow is training with the Accies and could this week sign as a free agent."

Not sure another older striker is what we need, although he was a decent player at Falkirk and has a lot of experience. I think Loy would still be a better option.

On 7 February 2014, Gow joined Bristol Rovers on loan for the remainder of the 2013–14 season. However, during a match against Scunthorpe United on February 25, Gow was stretchered off suffering ligament damage leaving him unable to play for around six weeks.

It would appear if wikipedia is accurate that he hasn’t kicked a ball competitvely in nearly a year since the above. Im resigned to the fact that Loy won’t be signing but is this the best we can do

Agreed - I think the club can do a lot better than this. Gow was a decent player, but he's been over in India playing and as you say struggling with injury and not played much football for some time. Whether he is able or ready to go straight into top six SPL level is up for debate. The club must have identified Loy as a player they thought could do a job given that they bid for him, and it would be worth making the proper investment to give us some more options up front.

Having the bulk of any cash we receive from player transfers going to youth development is the right way and fits with the clubs ethos, but putting a little bit aside to bring in some quality when required is also needed.

Apparently second bid for Loy has been turned down; and if we cant get him at the price we think reasonable then I don't agree that we need to push the boat out. Gow is a free agent so we can have a close look at him for free and that seems sensible.

If we want Loy, get him signed up on a pre-contract from July 1st.
Forget attempting to get him now.

Surely there must be other strikers we could bring before midnight.
Not Gow.
