League Cup v Airdrieonians

Postby TerracingTomas » Sat Jul 27, 2019 11:40 am

Armed with Big Wurzels' stats I travel optimistically looking for a win and next stage qualification which at the end of the day would be an improvement on last year but this Accies so who knows. Interesting to see who plays given this is a must win. I expect Smith to keep his place with perhaps Miller back in up front with Oggie. PS Dont forgot this shower charge for parking.

OK the positives. We qualified which is better than last year and we came back from 2 - 0 down scoring 3 with 2 Cunningham penalties and an Oggie wonder goal. Negatives that was an absolutely dreadful first half performance with the usual defensive confusion. It was men against boys and quite rightly Accies were booed off. I listened to Open all Mikes before the game and for the first time the pundits by a very large majority didnt have Accies down for 11/12th spot that honour for the most part went to Midden and Livvi. This will be revised very quickly because I reckon Ross County will tear us apart next week. With Easton injured Want came in and he was woeful in the first half. We have done nothing to improve the defence and no wonder our Director of Football has resigned. Get the finger out Accies and splash some cash on a really good central defender for a start. There is still over 4 weeks to go until the window closes.

Airdrie ripped Want and McMann to shreds time after time and Rice did nothing to remedy it.

1st half was as bad as any Canning game. 2nd half was better but still poor. Didnt create many chances at all.

Despite being third best in the first half, we at least fought back and ended up as one of the best Runners-up with 9 points, never having actually lost any games!!

From the draw tomorrow evening we will know wherther we can advance into the next round against a ceeded team. Seems, though, that our entry into the last sixteen has earned us £40K!!! Spend it on a reliable solid centre half, please!!

While agreeing that performances have been generally poor, let's just take a step back and look at the performances of some of the other premier league teams who are apparently going to run riot against us.

HIBS - draw with Stirling Albion.
HEARTS - draw with East Fife, and scramble a win against Stenhousemuir with two very late goals.
ST MIRREN - draws with East Kilbride and Albion Rovers, and finished third in group.
ST JOHNSTONE - lost three out of four including defeats by Montrose and Forfar, and finished fourth in group.

In addition, probable promotion contenders from the Championship - :

DUNDEE UNITED - lost to East Fife
DUNFERMLINE - lost to Edinburgh United.
DUNDEE - draw with Cove.

Yes, Accies do have a lot of problems, but we are not alone, it seems!
