League cup qualification permutations

Postby Big Wurzil » Sun Jul 21, 2019 10:03 am

If and it’s a big if that we beat airdrie next week then we’ll have 9 points and it’ll need to be a huge win as looks like it’ll come down to GD to progress.

Group A should provide 1 runner up.

Group E and H will struggle to get a runner up through.

That leaves 3 spaces from 5 groups.

Group G - got to assume livi will win the group and if Ayr beat Stranraer then they’ll be 2nd on 9 with a GD of at least 8+

Group C - similar to G with hibs winning the group and if Arbroath beat Alloa then they’ll be on 9 too with a healthy GD. Arbroath.

Group D - probably won’t provide a runner up due to Dundee playing ICT in a winner takes the group next Sunday.

Group B - strange group, st Johnstone on paper should win the but they’ll need to win all 3 games and they need to play Ross o and Forfar and Ross co need to play Forfar. 1 win for either Ross co and Forfar could see a runner up from that group due to GD.

All of this is irrelevant though if partick draw v Clyde on Wednesday as even if they win the shootout a 1-0 win for us over airdrie wins us the group.

Yep, Arbroath winning 6-1 away at Stirling could screw us. If only we had a fourth tier team in our group. Oh.

That Ross co result changes it again.

Saints are out but got to hope they can beat Forfar and Ross co just need to avoid defeat v Forfar to win the group which will put Forfar on no more than 8.

Going to be tight :D

I wouldn't rule out Airdrie as they have three points now and play us and Queens Park, both in Airdrie.

We really have fcuked this up again as we should be sitting with nine points.

Couldn’t have hand picked a better group with a low end championship team and a bunch of amateurs and a league 2 team who won promotion but in typical Accies style we labour through the group

Looking better again after last nights rsukts.

Groups A, D, H definitely won’t provide a runner up due to lack of points and fixture clashes.

Tonight’s group B and F games could make it much clearer :?

What a waste of time and money just to get through one round of a cup. Bring back the knock out ties.

I reckon a win on Saturday will 99% put us through.

It’s 5 clubs fighting for 4 spaces

*Forfar +4 v St Johnstone
*Arbroath +3 v Alloa
*Morton +6 v QOS
Airdrie v *Accies +2
*Ayr +7 v Stranraer

Ayr should win and Forfar have probably the hardest on paper but the games could throw up anything. Interestingly we’re the only away team and we have the worst goal difference however I think a win will see us through.

A win for Accies, not looking good, as per usual in the diddy cup

And of course bloody Forfar also beating St J not helping

EDIT Accies fighting back now 2-2 from 0-2

Seeded clubs
Celtic
Rangers
Kilmarnock
Aberdeen
Motherwell
Ross County
Livingston
Hibernian

Unseeded clubs
Partick Thistle
Dunfermline Athletic
Heart of Midlothian
Forfar Athletic
Hamilton Academical
Greenock Morton

Plus two of:
Inverness Caledonian Thistle
Dundee
East Fife

Looks like we’ll have a tricky tie either way

I've heard qualifying earns us £40k. As we desperately need funds to buy at least two players, I think sadly we've got to hope for an away tie with either of the OF. Far better that than away to Ross County or Livi.

A home tie with either Celtic or Rangers would hopefully be televised giving more money?
I’d sacrifice the chance to progress in the tournament for the extra cash to invest in a decent experienced centre half.

Miller nowhere to be seen yesterday not even on the bench. 11 days to go until the english window shuts so maybe he's off or am I clutching at straws. 100k for him would allow us to wheel and deal.
