League Cup V Partick Thistle

Well at least its at NDP, I hate visiting Frill. Despite behind the scenes boardroom chaos on the field Partick have started well and will fancy their chances. I’m sure we can continue to create chances but defensively still not confident. I don't think a draw even if we won the penalty shoot out is any good to us. 3 points if we want to progress a must.

We definitely need a win to progress but then again if we can’t beat 2 lower league teams at home we don’t deserve to.

A shoot-out win and a win over Airdrie would see us on nine points and that could see us through as one of the best runners-up but yes, two more wins would guarantee it.

We've got to take a more positive approach here. We survived another year in the top division. Thistle were very close to going down to Divison ONE until almost the end of their season. OK, so they now have Kenny Millar who is still fit. but Mr Rice should be instilling an 'in your face' approach so that we keep the pressure in THEIR final third, and not allow OUR final third to be the problem area.

A win and three points , then on to Airdrie for another three, please.

I actually enjoyed that game. We had enough chances to win it. Cunninghams' 2 excellent goals, a lewis smith effort that hit the bar, an Alston header and an Oakley turn and shoot that wasnt far off. Then of course the Mcgowan penalty  I dont like defenders taking penalties and it showed for me he seemed to bend back and hit it over the bar. At least we won the penalty shoot out but its in Partick's hands to win the group. Need to see the 2 partick goals again but defensively there seems to be too much confusion and lack of coordination. Easton was having a mare of a game before his injury and will need to improve significantly. For those not there Hughes fell to the ground after an innocuous Patrick challenge and seemed to have injured his neck. They applied a neck brace and stratchered him off. Hopefully not serious. This is a strong partick team compared to last year and in other circumstances might have been happy with a draw. Onwards to airdrie.

Easton was not the only one struggling, I thought McKenna was very poor, lost his man continually, failed to do the basics of clearing the ball when required to, then the ultimate, a centre half needs to head the ball, he failed and almost gave Thistle their best opening of the second half. Not good enough. Said it before on here this defence has not improved and we are going to continue to lose goals this season unless serious action is carried out on this defence and get proven experience and proper centre half's who know first of all is defenders, defend.

First half I thought we were off the pace-considerably so after the horrendous Ronan Hughes injury.

Second half,we started well, made it 2-1,then missed a plethora of chances where if we went 3-1 up,we may have went onto score more.Thistle scored the equaliser in their first meaningful attack in the second half, but even then we blew it with the penalty although to be fair,Kenny Misfire missed a great chance in injury time.

Defence still extremely ropey and sadly looks as if Big Sheena is the weak link-then Gogic.

Alex Gogic gives you a 100%+ effort every game, unlike some. Thought Alston was anonomous for much of the game. Agree that Esaton was poor so hope that's a blip and not what we will get from him this season.
Defence, as others say, is a real worry, and we will be cut apart by Premier teams if we persist with this performance. AJ looked unfit and vould not make the required runs back when he he gone way up the park, as he does. Why he was the penalty taker to day we can only ask BR for that decision. We score, and the game's over and its three points.

Three points against Airdrie next Saturday, and we might, just might, get in as one of the four runners up with 9 points. BBC show us only with 5 at present, but 1 from QP, 3 from Clyde, and 2 from today seems to add to 6 in my books!!

Decent game, despite the ropey defence. #trustinrice

On another note, anyone tell me how busy/quiet the MacArthur suite was? First time in ages that I didnt go in before a game as didn’t have the desire to be ‘escorted’ back and forth.

Reading PTFC.Net and they were saying loads of Thistle fans got in for free due to the incompetence at the away turnstiles.
