Strict Liability

Postby Euan » Tue Mar 26, 2019 2:30 pm

Just read that Accies were one of the Clubs to vote against strict liability in a recent Poll of Scottish Clubs by the BBC.
The old firm didn’t even vote against it, both abstained.
How are we supposed to get rid of Scotland’s shame without introducing Strict Liability. It was bad enough when Scotland’s arsehole James Kelly MSP managed to repeal the offensive behaviour bill leading to increased sectarianism and general behaviour issues.
Disgusted at Accies Directors, if we aim to be a community club we should be promoting this step not voting against it.

apart from paying for stewards and police and banning fans who misbehave, I don't know what you expect the clubs to do

you could argue that police and stewards don't do their jobs - the stewards certainly don't do their jobs

I don’t expect Accies to ever suffer under Strict Liability as we don’t have a history of sectarian singing or wrecking seats/toilets on our travels and our worst behaved fans are just annoying rather than offensive.

I once witnessed an Academical follower discarding a Milky Bar wrapper on a windy day at Glebe Park which became embedded in the Hedge so strictly speaking that could have embroiled Accies into a Strict Liability situation.
One to watch out for to avoid a similar situation arising in the future.

My problem with “strict liability” is that it punishes the innocent. Let’s pursue the guilty more stringently with punitive sentences, and better trained, more numerous stewards, or clubs who are negligent in their precautions.
