So much for the diddies who said who'd want the job if Canning went!

It's an attractive job.

We have the bones of a decent squad, and a manager with a bit about him will keep us up.

Then you have the opportunity to make your mark by taking the club forward.

Please not John Collins, dear lord.

This appointment, if we are to have any chance of staying up, has to be right. So no more experts in failure please.

I know Stephen Dobbie loves Queen of the South but I wonder if he fancies being a player-manager? Like, in time for Saturday!

From the BBC gossip page:-

Latvia-based Gordon Young has emerged as a shock contender to be the next Hamilton manager after they sacked Martin Canning. Paul Hartley, Jim Goodwin, Mark McGhee, Alex Rae, Barry Ferguson and Massimo Donati are also among the contenders. (Scottish Sun)

Hes 52 never managed, always been an assistant/head of youth and the last few years his positions seem to have been a few month there a few months here. Another friendly journaiist touting his pal?

I’m afraid we are going to have to put up with all sorts of suggestions until the real appointment is made. I have to confess to being taken in by the one about Kris Boyd I posted yesterday which is a pity cos I still like the idea of him coming in as player coach.

Latest from maitland on the BBC sport website. Says we might have a new manager in by the weekend.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/47057309

Hamilton Academical chairman Allan Maitland hopes to have a new manager in place by this weekend after shortening a vast list to "four or five" options.

The South Lanarkshire club parted company with Martin Canning by mutual agreement on Tuesday after picking up just one point in eight league games.

Maitland told BBC Scotland he wants someone with experience of Scottish football who can bring "flair".

"I want us to play to win games as opposed to not lose games," he said.

"There's been an element of that recently. It's important for supporters who come and watch to see a team with a bit of flair.

"And I want to find a pathway for kids coming through to play in the first team."

Maitland, who took over in December, said he has heard from the "usual suspects" and that "there's been a lot of really interesting names put forward".

This is a summary of what he said on Radio Scotland last night. From memory, he said that he would ideally like to have someone in place before the Dundee game but it was more likely to be next week. He also said that his preference is to appoint an experienced coach that already knows the Scottish game and that his current "shortlist" of 4 or 5 candidates meet those criteria.

18 plus years as an assistant manager/coach, he certainly has experience.
REALLY surprised if he is the choice though. I thought Goodwin was surely gonna be the choice.

Bit too hurried an appointment.
I know they can't exactly take an eternity but shouldn't rush into a decision until every avenue is exhausted.

If it's Rice, then that's a totally disappointing and uninspiring choice!
