Nice guy but never a manager.

Wish him all the best but hopefully we can now move on and up.

I think this is the best thing for the club and hopefully for Martin too.

I didn't believe this was possible but goodness me WHY OH WHY wasn't this done after the Motherwell game giving the new man the time to work with th players? Internal board room struggle? I see its to be advertised. I hope its a genuine recruitment process. Jim Goodwin for me but I think he will hold out for the Midden job. the board will want someone who can show he develops young players Oh I’m so looking forward to Saturday.

I didn't expect this yet however this is a massive lift.

I don't have any hard feelings towards Canning - I'm sure he tried his best. (I actually feel a wee bit bad as I was jumping about punching the air a few minutes ago and it's someones livelihood)

Maitland does deserve credit for this, he's got us Andreu back and now this.

Everyone and their dog needs to get back out for the Dundee game now.

Come on the Accies

I agree with that Gilbert. He can walk away with the credibility of keeping us in the league for a few years and hopefully stay in football.

There are no guarantees that this will keep us in the league but it does feel like a massive lift. The disharmony and disconnect amongst the supporters was very depressing.

We really need a response from the fans.

Now that Canning is gone I for one won't be rubbing salt into the wounds by bad mouthing him.
Enough has been said.
Time to thank him for his service and move on.
Even Canning, deep down must acknowledge he had reached the end of the road.

Martin is a decent guy just seriously out of his depth. For his own sake i am glad he has gone and the club can now move on.

Very strange time to let him go though

Jim Goodwin as our next manager. Think we need to look elsewhere and not internally

I was just about to post that link. For once a journalist who has done some homework and produced a really good analysis.

Thanks Gilbert.

Wow that sums it up brilliantly - he must be an accies fan in disguise to have that level of insight.

Yup. Has to be! Excellent piece, as all have said.

Feeling a bit sorry for Swift Frank now..... MCGTF no more!

Surely, this will have us turning a corner and in an upwards direction? Better late than never!!

Meant to add that any new manager is going to have to do wonders with our existing squad, as he/she will have no chance to sign anyone before the window closes on Thursday. Timings are not great on this as far as MC's depature is concerned, and, of course, the time to have made the decision was after the Motherwell game.

Nice guy but should never have got the job after losing 5-0 at Firhill.

Social Media-including the reply to the excellent Scotsman article-is awash with fcukwits who never watch Accies tell us we are all wrong. They never had to watch what we had to suffer.

Yeah YOH fcuk them.
A St Mirren fud mouthing a load of pish also.
It was in a lot of non Accies minded people's best interest for Canning to remain in charge let's not forget.
Maitland deserves enormous credit for having the balls to do the right thing.
