Well beaten 3-2 by 10 men. We looked like boys whereas St M looked much the stronger team, even after one was sent off for second yellow. At 1-0 to them, we miss a penalty skied well over the goal, but got an equaliser evetually. They went 2 up from a needless penalty conceeded then 3-1 playing with 10 men.

We looked lacklustre with 11 v 10, far too mahy cross pitch balls or long balls which they mopped up, Forwards looked disjointed and not playing as a team, Bloomfield was mostly a passenger, but our number 8 (?) was by far the most threatening for us.

At 3-1 down we were playing like we were 3-1 up.

Canning in the dug-out and offering advice/suggestions in second half. Didn'y seem to have any real effect, though

70 Accies in a crowd of 315. Can't be many travelling impressed with us loosing to 10 men.

The lads look like there still settling in, agree a disappointing performance. Number 8 was Aaron Smith who has been missing for a while.

I was one of the seventeen (according to the tannoy man) Accies fans there. Yes, we did look a bit lightweight compared to the big St Mirren side, but plenty of positives.
Aaron Smith looks really promising. Creative midfielder and took his goal really well. Lewis Smith looked a real threat in the first half, and Stanger looks very assured at the back.

Agree with Porcupine that we got outplayed by St Mirren even when they went down to 10. In the first half in particular we didn’t seem at the races even though we were awarded a penalty and Aron Smith got a goal. But as ggr points out there were positives. This was the first time I’ve seen marsden play in goals and he had a few good saves. Shows promise. Aron Smith took his goal well and made a few timely interventions. Hopefully he and the club have kissed and made up and he will get a first team oppo. Louis Smith looks the part and surely needs a bit of first team exposure. Stanger also good at the back but that’s the second game that Garcia has been hooked early. This time after conceding a penalty. To confirm it was 70away fans not 17.

Yes seven zero Accies fans. Agree that there were some individual positives, and thanks, Aaron Smith looked more than ready for first team football. Stanger, too, seemed very steady in defence.
Physically, we were mostly boys against a very well built and strong Saints team.

The whole Irn Bru Cup set-up is a shambles with all these teams from England Wales & both Irelands involved, all of which are costing Clubs a fortune in travelling, and in no relation to any real financial prize at the end. Maybe lots of free Irn Bru though? Glad that we are no longer committed to spending on this questionable competition.

I liked the original concept of the Challenge Cup as a "lower leagues trophy". The latest developments are just gimmicks, and cheapen it, IMO. I don't like the idea that it devalues our historic wins.

70 away fans when the robbing bar stewards were charging a tenner was ok;would have been more at reasonable prices I imagine.

As for the above, good to hear Aaron Smith is alive and well as obviously something has happened behind the scenes for him not to get a game even for the reserves for over a month.

But disappointed we went out as a journey to Ireland,Wales or England would have been a good wee away trip since we never get any trips like this nowadays due to The League Cup;mind you it didn't stop our neighbours having away trips to Darlington and Northern Ireland pre season.
