Accies - Airdrieonians Match Thread

Postby TerracingTomas » Sat Jul 28, 2018 11:09 am

Back to football matters. Another victory hopefully but I think Airdrieonians might be a tougher test than Berwick. No idea on starting lineup but hopefully we get a look at Philips.

Significant improvement needed for next Saturday. After we scored we seemed to lose interest and not surprising they got back into it. No idea what our best 11 will look like and not sure Martin does either. :?:

Accies' twitter can't bring itself to say " that's us out, we've finished third behind Airdrie". Usual pish about players milestone appearances. Bunch of amateurs.

If Hearts win tomorrow, we'll be the only Premier side put out in the groups.

For those that didn't bother to go, Accies looked like a mid table Championship team playing a team that should not be in League 1 but higher up. Scott McMann was back to his old self, Phillips looked the part as a sweeper in front of a back three, and Miller was lively but both he and Bingham were starved of some real incisive through passes for much of the game.

Boyd's role I could not determine, and Dougie should now be kept as an impact sub, as Kelly was more effective when he came on in Imrie's place.

Until Sowah was injured, the back three of Gordon, Want & Sowat looked comfortable, but, as a team, we failed to inflict any real damage against Airdrie, who were well organised at the back four, and in their midfield.

It always looke like a drawn game, although the three Airdrie penalties were all very poor and saveable.

This could be another long season, even with talented players signed in ths summer, and it will take a few weeks for MC to figure out his best line-up, no doubt, by which time much damage could be done. It is still a pizz poor result finishing fourth out of five in our section. Await Diddy Cup and League is the most important guff.

In saying that, we are a lot stronger today than this time last year, and hopefully the new players can gel as a unit as soon as possible.

I actually thought Phillips was murder. Penny didn't look good when he came on. No way I would start either Bingham or Imrie however I would have them on the bench. McMann looked good, Ziggy and Mckinnon looked solid and Miller could do damage with the right partner up top. What is the story with Lewis Smith?

We made it out of the groups last year.

Not looking forward to the season at all after so much positivity about the pre season signings etc.

To be really blunt,
We are pish,Canning is a Donkey and we are down before a ball is kicked.
But as long as MacGowan sells plenty junkie oil that's the main thing.

And we won two of our first three games in the league. Can't see that this season though maybe harder fixtures.

Lewis Smith will probably appear halfway through the season and look the part, leaving folk wondering why he wasn't included sooner. See Lewis Ferguson. If our young players are meant to be good, give them a game over English Championship nobodies. Like the last few Scotland managers, Canning (and many fans) seem to elevate these players to a level they don't deserve. Looks like one of them, Smith, has already been found out.

Annan once = give him the benefit of the doubt even though we all know he is a Donkey.
Annan twice= should be tarred and feathered.

There’s been a lot of rebuilding, but it’s pretty obvious the club doesn’t value this competition.

I find that baffling. We’ve spent 8 of the last 11 seasons as a bottom half SPL team, and what can we aspire to? Surely we’d like to win a trophy? And if so, the League Cup is one of just two possibilities, arguably the easier of the two. Yet we write it off, and effectively use it as a pre-season.

Disappointing.

Whether we value Cups or not our record in both are atrocious throughout our history..
Airdrie equalled our total Scottish Cup final appearances in over 125 years in the space of a few years in the 90s.
Pretty Pathetic.

Yet again we have to rely on a lower division side to provide us with highlights. Why can't Accies TV do this?

Playing that god awful celebration music when we've just been papped oot the cup, can Accies get any more tinpot?

And I'm not seeing 799 in that home stand!
