Replacing Alex Neil

Postby redandwhite1874 » Sat Jan 17, 2015 4:56 pm

On the park as well as off it.

For me the holding midfield position is the most urgent gap; I like Routledge but after a torrid time with injury he is struggling to reach where he was before. We have money from Neil, freed up Scotland's wages and will get more prize money that budgeted for.

I'm not sure we'll bring anyone in. After listening to the interview with Les today, their in no rush to replace the manager, by the time they do the window will probably be closed.

I didn't hear that, but personally I think that would be a complacent mistake. You can't lose that much experience from this squad on and off the park and think its business as usual- but its Les's call; but to be honest if we were looking to bring folk in it would not be our style to tell everyone?

Agreed. Alex was such a huge influence as a manager and a player. It wouldn't take much I don't think to fill the void. It would be such a shame to see what has been a fantastic season turn into just an ordinary one.

If we're looking to strengthen the midfield after Alex's departure I'd consider Blair Alston Falkirk, reasonably experienced, an eye for goal and at 6ft, a physical presence.

PS while we're at it we could take Rory Loy as well to provide some competition up front.

Its becoming an absolute necessity for a holding midfielder.

Throwing a curveball here but, if Gattuso became our new manager, might he fancy that role?

Gattuso has had brief spells in charge at FC Sion, Palermo and, most recently, OFI Crete.

Says it all not a serious contender but the press love a character.

It's been announced on sky sports news that there is a news conference called for 1:30 tomorrow to announce the new management team.

Think Martin will be the assistant manager under McCall,

mind you I have just noticed that canning odds have gone to 1-10, closest rival is Gattuso at 8-1

Guillaume Beuzelin? Really?

Stuart McCall would have been perfect, worked wonders at Motherwell with no budget (though he did fail to freshen the club up, allowing them to decline rapidly).

Where are you seeing this about Beuzelin? Nothing on their twitter or OS.

Have to say it surprises me on one hand, but on the other it doesn't at all. I had hoped for McCall so we had a bit of experience at fighting hard in the top league - we'll just need to give MC time while he figures it all out and hopefully be a much stronger team for it next season. Thank God AN had us so far up the league before he was poached!
