Now is when the beauty of this year's post-split fixtures kicks in. The three teams below us have all still to play one another.
The best results for us in those games, arithmetically-speaking, are that they're all draws. That would mean Partick's maximum final points total would be 34, assuming they also beat Motherwell, meaning we only need 1 point from our last 3 games to be safe; Ross County's maximum points total would be 32, less than we already have.
Another favourable scenario, if we're willing to give up on 9th place, is that Dundee beat both Partick and County. If that happens, and Partick and County draw next Friday night, we're already safe.
The worst scenario is that County now become the whipping boys, losing to both Dundee and Partick. The silver lining there is we'd already be safe from the automatic relegation spot, but the reason it's the worst scenario is we remain in a dogfight over the play-off spot, albeit in the best position of the 3 contenders.
The good news is our fate is in our own hands. If Partick and County draw on Friday night, a win at Dens guarantees we'll be in the Premier League next season. A draw would likely be enough. And even defeat leaves us 2 more games to secure the points that ensure our safety. We're almost there.
